A Fire Is Rarely Just a Fire

In Oakland County, a house fire also means water from the hoses, smoke in the walls and soot on everything. Larger homes with open floor plans let smoke travel further, and fine finishes need careful cleaning.

Select Restoration responds across Oakland County, from Troy and Rochester Hills to Royal Oak, Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills. We secure the property, clean smoke and soot, remove odor, dry water damage and rebuild.

We are a licensed Michigan contractor (#2102185156), in business since 1993.

We Follow the ANSI/IICRC S700 Fire and Smoke Damage Standard

ANSI/IICRC S700 (First Edition, 2025) is the first American National Standard for professional fire and smoke damage restoration. It covers how fire residues are assessed, how odor is managed, how structures and HVAC systems are cleaned and how a restoration work plan is built after a fire. Select Restoration is an IICRC Certified Firm, and we follow S700 on every fire and smoke damage job.

Assessment first
Before any cleaning starts, we identify the type of residue (dry smoke, wet smoke, protein or fuel-oil soot), how far it traveled and which areas and items were affected.
Safety and protection
Soot and fire residues carry fine particles and chemicals. Our crews wear the protective equipment the standard calls for and keep residues from spreading to clean areas.
Source removal
Charred and unsalvageable materials keep producing odor. They come out first, so the cleaning and deodorizing that follow actually last.
Structural cleaning
Walls, ceilings, framing and floors are cleaned with methods matched to the residue, not one product for everything.
HVAC and air systems
Smoke travels through ductwork. Air handlers and ducts are evaluated and cleaned so soot and odor are not blown back through the house.
Odor management
We remove odor at the source, then use deodorization such as thermal fogging where it fits the job, instead of covering smells with fragrance.
Contents restoration
Furniture, clothing, electronics and keepsakes are inventoried and cleaned or packed out, with salvage decisions documented.
A written work plan
Every job gets a documented restoration plan and a final evaluation, with photos and notes insurance carriers and adjusters recognize.

Why Families Trust Select Restoration After a Fire

A fire is one of the hardest things a family can go through, and the company you let into your home should treat it that way. Select Restoration is a local, family-run company that has served Metro Detroit for 30+ years. We are not a franchise or a call center. Our shop is on Utica Road in Fraser, and the people cleaning your home are our own crew.

Following S700 means we clean soot instead of painting over it, clean the ductwork instead of skipping it, and remove smoke odor at the source instead of covering it up. We work directly with your insurance company, document every step, and our own crews handle the repairs, so one team takes care of your home from the first call to the final walkthrough. As an IICRC Certified Firm, we employ certified technicians, carry liability insurance, keep a written complaint policy and follow the IICRC code of ethics.
